Hope Haven aquatic center project aims to transform former orphanage site

MARRERO, La. (WVUE) – Jefferson Parish and state leaders are moving forward with a $70 million plan to redevelop the former Hope Haven orphanage site, with an aquatic center as the centerpiece of the project’s second phase.

The 15-acre campus, which closed in the 1990s, has been the subject of redevelopment efforts since 2008. Phase one — a walking trail with a playground and workout equipment — was funded through parish and state dollars, with Jefferson Parish Councilman Deano Bonano credited for securing that funding, according to State Sen. Pat Connick (R-Marrero).

The second phase calls for a nearly 73,000-square-foot aquatic center featuring a therapy pool, a warm-up pool and an Olympic-sized competition pool…
