Other than heavy rainfall and occasional lightning and thunder, storms during the overnight behaved and stayed below severe thresholds. Rainfall will continue to be heavy at times until we reach mid-morning. Showers and storms will fall apart from there but a lingering shower or two cannot be ruled out through midday.
As we dry back out we will also heat back up. High heat lingers in Central Kansas where most high temperatures will return to the 100s. It will not be as hot farther north and west due to a cold front that has not moved much since yesterday. The front will also keep our atmosphere unsettled.
Another round of showers and storms will get started after 3pm or 4pm. Storms will become more numerous once we get into the evening. Storm coverage will mainly be across Northern and Western parts of the area due to the front still being oriented from southwest to northeast.
A storm or two could still impact areas farther south and east. There is also a risk for strong to severe storms with the greatest risk being in portions of Western Kansas. Strong wind gusts and hail are the main threats. Similar to last night, storm severity may need to be monitored into the overnight but they will gradually weaken and fall apart from there.
Churchgoers could run into a leftover shower or two but there will not be much wet weather around Sunday morning. A chance for showers and storms will start to go back up Sunday afternoon as a second cold front pushes through the area. Storms are most likely Sunday evening and during the overnight as they slide west to east across the area.
Some rain sticks around into Monday. A spotty storm or two will be possible again late in the day but we are not looking too active to begin the new week. High temperatures next week will be between the 80s and the 90s. Some days will be hotter than others but at least there will not be as many triple digits.
