American Hiker Struck by Lightning on Mount Etna Dies in Hospital

An American hiker tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning while climbing Mount Etna in Italy on Sunday, according to Italian media reports.

The 30-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly ascending a restricted area of the volcano when a thunderstorm developed, the national news agency ANSA reported.

Emergency responders found the hiker in critical condition around 8 p.m. Sunday. He was transported to Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
