SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – People experiencing homelessness in Springfield are struggling to stay safe during extreme heat, with a daytime shelter saying there are not enough places for people to get out of the heat once its doors close for the day.
The Veterans Coming Home Center gives people experiencing homelessness a few hours each day to come inside, cool down, eat, and get water. But once the shelter closes, many are back outside in the heat with limited options.
Shelter has already called ambulances multiple times
Pastor Mark Glenn, the center’s manager, said he is already seeing the consequences this season.
