Murder case paused as suspect fights to throw out evidence

ANN ARBOR, MI – A Washtenaw County judge granted a stay on the case of a man accused of killing his girlfriend in 2023 as he appeals a decision to allow evidence from the alleged crime scene.

Charles Gamez, now 44, is fighting the denial of a motion asking to suppress evidence from what he said was an improper search of the apartment, according to court filings.

Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Carol Kuhnke, who denied the motion, granted a stay for the case July 16 as Gamez’s appeal works its way through the higher court…
