8 rescued from sinking boat off Sands Point

A 62-foot vessel carrying eight passengers began taking on water Friday evening off Sands Point, prompting a multi-agency marine response, according to the Nassau County Public Information Office.

The Nassau County Marine Bureau responded to a report of the vessel in the vicinity of Success Rock at about 7 p.m. Aug. 14, police said.

The Town of North Hempstead Bay Constables, U.S. Coast Guard, Rye Police Department Marine Bureau and FDNY Marine Bureau also responded to assist.
