Tour of aging Juvenile Court reveals problems

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Juvenile Court Judge Tarik Sugarmon took WREG on a tour of the court building to show conditions there as the debate continues over the need for a new building.

Sugarmon was getting candid about the nearly 100-year-old Juvenile Court building at 616 Adams, where staff still comes to work and juveniles and their families come for hearings.

“The broader community really needs to know what we’re dealing with on a daily basis,” Sugarmon said, showing us what he said was mold and asbestos. “It is an environmental hazard.”…
