BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — North Carolina health officials are reporting more than 20 new cases of cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a parasite that can cause severe diarrhea.
The state has seen a total of 929 cases and 32 hospitalizations of the illness since May, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirmed in an update on Tuesday, Aug. 18. This is an increase of 23 cases and one new hospitalization since the NCDHHS’s last update.
