Hearing for SEIU to join county’s sewer lawsuit set for Sept. 1

A hearing on whether a union representing local workers can join Kern County’s lawsuit against the city of Bakersfield’s increased sewer rates was set for Sept. 1, during a brief court proceeding Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Service Employees International Union Local 521 filed an ex parte motion to intervene in the county’s lawsuit and on Tuesday, Kern County Superior Court Judge Bernard Barmann Jr. said he wanted more time to review the motion and the city’s opposition.
