EL PASO, Tx., August 18, 2026: After a marathon session where the city council was unable to agree on the budget – at one point being deadlocked – the city council finally voted to reduce the budget by $6,496,971, setting a tax rate of $0.79800.
Voting for the budget were Josh Acevedo, Chris Canales, Alejandra Chávez, Art Fierro, Deanna Maldonado Rocha, and Ivan Niño. Cynthia Boyar Trejo and Lily Limón voted against it. The city council then voted to ratify the budget along the same votes and to adopt the tax rate of $0.79800 with Boyar Trejo and Limón voting against it.
