Powerful, noisy thunderstorms rolled through the Kansas City area overnight, leaving thousands of customers without power Wednesday, according to utility power outage maps.
The hardest-hit area was Kansas City, Kansas, where the Board of Public Utilities reported shortly after 6 a.m. that more than 16,500 customers — about 25% of its total — were without electricity across Wyandotte County.
