Overpopulation crisis at Pierce Co. shelter prompts calls for action after 60 cats rescued from boat

A recent rescue of 60 cats from a boat in Pierce County has renewed concerns about animal overpopulation and sparked calls for a broader regional effort to address the issue.

The cats, rescued last week by Pierce County Animal Control and Tacoma police officers, are now being cared for by the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society. Officials say the case highlights a larger problem affecting animal welfare organizations across the county.
