Lowcounty Alzheimer’s patient suffers nearly 1,000 ant bites; family sues care facility

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston Police are investigating the death of an elderly Alzheimer’s patient, and her children are suing their mother’s memory care facility, saying they are to blame.

The family tells News 2 that 83-year-old Shelba Catterton exited the facility through an unlocked door on the evening of July 23, 2026. She was found hours later outside, covered in ant bites.
