DES MOINES, Iowa — A Chevy Impala drove into a senior living complex in Des Moines’ southside Wednesday afternoon.
Des Moines Fire Chief Jonathan Lund said around 4:30 p.m., a car drove into a community room of the Southridge Senior Residences, located along the 1200 block of Cummins Road, striking a load-bearing column and causing a portion of the complex to become unsafe.
Lund said 16 units were evacuated so firefighters from Des Moines and Urbandale could remove the car and stabilize the building. The car was removed within two hours. Rose Lampman lives directly above where the car entered and shared her experience of the moment it happened.
