Canton police searching for female suspect in shooting that injured two

CANTON (WJW) — Canton police are searching for the suspect in a Tuesday night shooting that injured two, according to a release from the department.

At 10:20 p.m. on Aug. 18, police officials were called to the 900 block of 6th Street SW for a shooting. Officers at the scene were not initially able to locate any victims.

Shooting on Cleveland’s east side

But, an hour later, Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital staff contacted police about two females who arrived at their facility with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their legs. The victims are a 22-year-old female from Alliance and a 23-year-old female from Canton.

Investigators were able to trace the shooting back to 25-year-old Nakayla A. Smith of Canton. Two additional victims who were not struck with bullets were also identified.

Smith remains at large. Police have issued a warrant for her arrest.
