Ohio wildlife officers spent nearly two years unraveling what investigators described as a sprawling poaching operation tied to a shared hunting lease, eventually connecting multiple hunters to allegations involving night hunting, hunting from vehicles, false deer check-ins, tag swapping and animals that were never properly reported at all.
Bodycam footage compiled by the YouTube channel WildlifeWarden shows the investigation reaching a major turning point on Jan. 5, 2025, when officers spread across Guernsey County and simultaneously contacted several people connected to the case, some of whom were still actively hunting when wardens arrived.
The investigation had begun with a tip in October 2023 and ultimately reached into Guernsey, Muskingum and Licking counties. Eleven people faced charges connected to the broader investigation, with several later convicted and receiving penalties ranging from restitution and license suspensions to house arrest and jail time.
