Jersey City Council votes unanimously for ban on standalone data centers

The Jersey City Council voted unanimously (9-0) for a ban on standalone data centers in the early going of last night’s nearly six-hour meeting.

“This ordinance still allows co-location data centers in the industrial area, in any area, in Jersey City,” began Stephanie Startz, who runs the Prevailing Sentiment Instagram page.

“So I just wanted to call out that there is a kind of nonsense political theatre press release that went out to try to make someone look good for banning data centers, when the data centers they were referencing weren’t really banned.”

She was referencing the Mayor James Solomon administration touting the City Council approving the aforementioned ordinance introduction unanimously at their July 15th meeting, which saw them follow the lead of the planning board, both as HCV first reported…
