This transformation at Binder Park Zoo brings African wildlife up close to visitors

BATTLE CREEK, MI — Binder Park Zoo will open Msaga Shamba, a reimagined exhibit space, following a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, August 22, transforming what was once known as Forest Farm into an immersive experience designed to connect visitors with wildlife and conservation.

The exhibit, whose name translates to Miller Farm, honors naming donor Patricia “Patty” Miller and reflects an African-inspired setting. Guests will encounter blue duikers upon entry, view cheetahs up close and see a serval, a species new to the Battle Creek zoo.

“Msaga Shamba is an opportunity for us to take a space that many of our guests may remember and give it a completely new sense of purpose,” said Diane Thompson, president and CEO. “We want guests to feel like they are stepping into an experience. Every element has been thoughtfully considered to encourage curiosity, discovery and a deeper appreciation for farming.”…
