Marion man found not guilty in son’s death to remain at mental health facility, judge rules

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – A Marion man found not guilty by reason of insanity for strangling his son to death will remain at a mental health institute, a judge has ruled.

Matthew Schleier was found not guilty in April 2024 for the killing of his five-year-old son. He was later committed to Cherokee Health Institute.
