SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Gas prices are on pace to set a new record for the month of August. According to AAA, on Thursday the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is up 3 cents from last week to $4.10. That’s the most expensive gas has ever been on that date.
A new report from AAA also says that this could be the most expensive August for drivers on record. As of Thursday, the monthly average is $4.06. If that number holds or gets higher, it would surpass the previous record for the month of August, which was set back in 2022. Back then, the monthly average was $3.97.
