Joe Strummer would have turned 74 this week, and San Francisco is marking the occasion the way the Clash frontman probably would have preferred: loudly, intimately and inside a bar with more than a century of stories soaked into its walls.
On Friday, Aug. 21, Eric McFadden & Friends take over the The Hotel Utah Saloon for a birthday tribute to Strummer and the Clash, with Ghost Party also on the bill. The 21-and-over show starts at 8 p.m.
McFadden is hardly a stranger to the Utah stage — archival listings show him playing the venerable SoMa watering hole years ago — making the setting an especially comfortable fit for a night celebrating music built to be played with sweat rather than polish…
