47 of 56 bodies found at South Chicago Chapel identified: Medical examiner

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday evening it has successfully identified 47 sets of human remains that were found at a Chicago funeral home earlier this month.

The dozens of remains were found in “various states of decomposition” by authorities after they received a complaint from Illinois officials, who were investigating allegations South Chicago Chapel was not properly storing bodies at its facility.

In all, 47 of the 56 sets of human remains recovered from the chapel have been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Of those, 45 families have been notified…
