Green Bay commercial building evacuated after smoking, leaking package reported

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — A leaking bottle of muriatic acid prompted a hazardous materials response Friday afternoon at a commercial building on Cofrin Drive.

The Green Bay Fire Department was called around 4:24 p.m. to the 1900 block after a custodian reported a package was leaking, smoking and producing a noticeable odor. The package was moved outside before crews arrived.

Firefighters and the Green Bay Metro Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team evacuated the building while they identified the chemical. Testing found the package contained a leaking bottle of muriatic acid, which is commonly used for pool maintenance…
