RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — Liberty Dogs held its inaugural Leash Passing Ceremony Friday, pairing five U.S. veterans with shelter dogs beginning training in the organization’s Veteran-Trained Service Dog Program.
The ceremony took place at the nonprofit’s campus at 1215 Damonte Ranch Parkway. Liberty Dogs is a national nonprofit based in Reno that pairs veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder with trained service dogs and wellness programs.
“Today is what we call a pairing, or pass the leash, from our shelter dogs to our veterans,” said Ondra Berry, CEO of Liberty Dogs. “And these are the first group. So it’s kind of historic for us as Liberty Dogs, because these dogs have been getting trained over the last few months. And now we have identified the veterans who have been vetted and coming in.”…
