Encore Boston Harbor Workers Prepare to Go on Strike

Approximately 1,350 workers at Encore Boston Harbor have voted to organize a strike. The employees, who are members of Unite Here Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25, aim to secure better working conditions as their contract with Wynn Resorts expires on August 31. The strike could begin at any time after that date with no prior warning.

Staff Have Asked Visitors Not to Interfere with a Potential Strike

According to a recent Boston Herald report, casino workers are asking for respect, fair compensation, and improved working conditions. Employees argue that their efforts have helped make Encore Boston Harbor one of Wynn Resorts’ most valuable properties. This statement appears true, as the venue generated nearly $847 million in revenue in 2025.

The disgruntled workers argue that they should receive a fairer share of the profits. They point out that livable wages and good health insurance help bolster local communities, indirectly improving the area around the casino. While workers were initially reluctant to strike, they now feel that they are just making Wynn richer while their families suffer.

The two unions have asked visitors not to cross the picket line and not to spend their money inside the casino in the event of a potential strike. Workers remain adamant that they will continue to provide excellent service as long as Encore Boston Harbor agrees to a fair, mutually beneficial contract.

Union Representation Is Growing Steadily

The number of unionized staff at Encore Boston Harbor has gradually increased. In September 2025, 85 cage cashiers at the Everett casino voted almost unanimously to be represented by Teamsters Local 25. Employees were optimistic that the move would help them build a better future and make their voices heard…
