Erie Maritime Museum to Offer “Pay-As-Wish” Admission

The Erie Maritime Museum is preparing for a major infrastructure improvement project designed to safeguard Pennsylvania’s maritime history for generations to come. Beginning in early September, the museum will undergo a comprehensive climate control and HVAC modernization initiative while remaining open to visitors under a temporary “Pay-As-You Wish” admission model.

The project represents a significant investment in the preservation of the museum’s collections and facilities. Contractors are expected to begin work immediately after Labor Day, focusing on upgrading the museum’s aging climate control systems to better protect historic artifacts from fluctuations in temperature and humidity.

As part of the preparations, museum staff are carefully relocating approximately 50 sensitive artifacts from public display areas into secure, climate-controlled storage.
