COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The Columbus Police Therapy Dog unit is trained to support crime victims in their toughest moments. One of the people they’ve helped is Avery Russell.
Avery was just 11 years old when she was attacked by two pit bulls. Her family said the attack changed her life in many ways.
“We’ve had several procedures and she has her first ear reconstruction coming up at the end of the month that will start, and then she’ll have a procedure every six months for the next 3 to 5 years or so while she gets new ears reconstructed,” Avery’s mother, Drew Russell, said.
