CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)— Clear the Shelters is returning, giving Lowcountry families another opportunity to adopt pets in need of forever homes. The annual campaign, which began in 2015, brings shelters and rescue organizations together to encourage adoptions through discounts and waived fees.
Local shelter leaders say the end of summer is an important time to get animals adopted and make room for more pets in need. While dogs often get much of the attention, shelters are also encouraging people to consider cats and kittens. Staff say there are many kittens available and that adopting two together can help them socialize and adjust.
