Man arrested for DWI after crashing off-road vehicle, hurting passenger

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged with DWI after an off-road vehicle crash that seriously hurt his passenger in East El Paso County, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.

At about 2 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 900 block of O.T. Smith Road near Tornillo about a motor vehicle crash involving serious injuries.

The investigation determined that an off-road vehicle was traveling northbound on a paved pedestrian walkway adjacent to O.T. Smith Road.

The walkway is designed for pedestrian use only and is not open to motor vehicles, the Sheriff’s Office said. The walkway features pipe barriers along the center to restrict possible vehicle access, the Sheriff’s Office added…
