Norfolk mother seeks help from community after hit-and-run hospitalizes son

NORFOLK, VA. (WAVY) – Shaonna Mendez says it was just a regular night with her 9-year-old son, Shia. However, things took a turn for the worst when 2 cars came speeding through their neighborhood. One of those cars hit Shia, putting him in the hospital, and then sped away.

According to Norfolk police, the driver of that car was 18-year-old Christian Tabb. He’s since been charged with hit and run resulting in personal injury.

Mendez says she and Shia had just gotten home from a night out when the two cars came speeding down the street.

“Unfortunately, I was right there seeing my child get hit and flung. I ran to where my son was on the ground, he flew pretty far,” said Mendez, “I look up at the black Nissan, and a white Kia K5, I see the brake lights. I looked down to make sure my son was breathing. I looked back up and they were gone.”…
