TxDOT finalizes plans for $156M overhaul of Loop 410, San Pedro

The stretch of Loop 410 between West Avenue and Broadway Street has many dangerous areas for drivers. With folks crossing several lanes to reach the highway or one of the many busy corridors intersecting it in this area, it’s been identified as a hotspot for crashes. Now, the state is moving forward with a massive $156 million project to change that.

The Texas Department of Transportation is taking on 4.3 miles of highway along Loop 410 to improve safety, mobility and travel times. This includes revamping intersections, reconfiguring highway entrance and exit ramps, and widening some sections of the access road.

“Between 2014 and 2018, the project area averaged 3.7 crashes per day. That’s a higher rate than the statewide average for both interstates and U.S. highways,” the latest project website states. “Traffic impacts are also expected to get worse over time.”…
