JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Raindrops hit a cast-iron pan while a fire crackled in a metal trash bin nearby.
Outside a second-floor unit at the Grand Chateau Apartments, a woman identifying herself only as Ms. White had recently started the fire to cook.
She is one of the last remaining residents at the West Capitol Street complex, holding on a month after the electricity was shut off and the property was condemned.
As she draped laundry over the second-floor railing, White said she’s a convicted felon, and her status as such makes staying there easier than finding a new home…
