Columbus man arrested after toddler suffers multiple internal injuries

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A Columbus man was arrested after a child was hospitalized with numerous internal injuries over the weekend.

According to a CPD affidavit, social workers from a Columbus hospital notified police of a possible assault on a 14-month-old child, who was brought into an emergency room in critical condition Sunday night.

Police said the child’s mother was out of town for work over the weekend and left her son in the care of her boyfriend, 24-year-old Shemar Vidales. When she returned home just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday, she told police her child was blue, their body was limp and their eyes were rolling in the back of their head.

A CPD Domestic Violence detective interviewed Vidales at the hospital, where he admitted that the child began crying and would not stop after “being told to hush.” Vidales then reportedly said he got frustrated and “chopped” the child twice in the right side of the body with his hand…
