BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Community colleges in Michigan and across the United States are tracking the Ghost Student scam.
It involves scammers applying to colleges and universities to try to get student loans. Kellogg Community College (KCC) in Battle Creek has firsthand experience with it.
“These accounts that aren’t legitimate, this is nothing new,” said Greg Colgrove, the Chief Information Officer at KCC. “This is something that higher education has seen for several years but there really has been an uptick in regards to the sophistication that is used.”…
