SPRINGFIELD –– Doc Keys jokingly calls himself a junkman, and you might agree when you step inside his business –– but only for a moment. Doc’s Architectural Salvage may look disorganized, but it is no “Sanford and Son” operation.
From floor to ceiling and up and down walkways that seem to stretch to infinity are treasures from other eras –– Victorian sconces, mahogany bookcases, cast iron bathtubs, chandeliers that will sparkle after layers of dust are removed, stained glass windows, beveled glass doors, 20-foot-long back bars, fireplace mantels, wrought iron andirons, a walnut pulpit from a Michigan church and more, more and more.
The quantity and variety defy what your mind or eye can absorb. Over there are a bunch of wooden mermaids. Around the corner is a statue of Jesus. Toward the back is an antique coin-operated pony ride. Around another corner are enough brass doorknobs to sink a canoe in nearby Sulphur Fork Creek…
