Tips from Caddo Parish Animal Services to protect your pet from paw burn

CADDO PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Caddo Parish Animal Services is offering tips to make sure pet owners protect their pets’ paws from hot surfaces during the heat of summer.

Experts say asphalt, metal, and concrete can be 30 degrees warmer than the air temperature. You can check the temperature by pressing your hand to the ground for five seconds; if it’s too hot for your bare feet, then it’s too hot for pet paws.

Experts advise pet owners to walk dogs on grass in the morning or evening when it’s cooler. According to Caddo Parish Animal Services, you can also buy protective dog boots or shoes to keep paws safe…
