Nineteen years ago, two Duke students sought to revitalize Wednesday nightlife among their Blue Devil classmates. Zach Maurides, Trinity ‘07, and Steven Galanis, Trinity ‘10, brought weekly beer pong games to a small nightclub called Shooters II, located near Duke’s East Campus.
“We wanted to reinvent what Shooters is on Wednesday nights,” Maurides told The Chronicle at the time. “Lights on, sports on TV. We wanted to deliver value to beer. We’re taking what’s going on off campus and centralizing it at Shooters.”
“Wednesday Night Shooters” blossomed, with attendance growing from 10 students to more than 800 over the next few years. The lure of beer pong eventually dissipated, but the midweek tradition and discounted $5 cover fee for Duke undergraduates remained…
