FORT WORTH, TX — Fort Worth City Council members unanimously approved an $11.25 million settlement with the Estate of Atatiana Jefferson on Tuesday, nearly seven years after a former Fort Worth police officer fatally shot her in her home. The agreement still needs probate court approval before it can take effect.
The city said the deal resolves all civil claims connected to Jefferson’s death. It also gives her family what officials described as a measure of accountability after years of litigation and public attention surrounding the case.
Settlement Terms
Under the agreement, Jefferson’s two young nephews will receive the largest shares of the settlement. Those funds will be held in trust until each boy turns 18, according to the city news release.
