Fort Wayne residents speak on proposed water rate hikes from Aqua Indiana

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) held a public hearing Wednesday on pending water and wastewater rate hikes for some Allen County customers.

Aqua Indiana sent the IURC a notice of intent on March 20, saying that it planned to seek an increase in its base rates for approximately 14,000 customers in southwest Fort Wayne and Allen County.

The Pennsylvania-based utility company’s rate application seeks a two-phase $6,455,513 increase for its wastewater utility and a three-phase $625,501 increase for its water utility. They say that they need to increase rates due to a rise in operating and maintenance expenses…
