NOPD: Arrest made in rape cases dating back to ’90s, 2000s

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man is in police custody as the result of multiple rape investigations, dating back to the ’90s.

The New Orleans Police Department announced Wednesday, Aug. 26, the arrest of 70-year-old Robert Hamilton, who is currently facing three counts of second-degree rape for cases backdated to 1997, 2008 and 2013.

He also has a previous rape conviction from 1978.

After a 2025 arrest, Hamilton was reportedly identified as a suspect due to his DNA being placed in the FBI CODIS system. Detectives with the NOPD Sex Crimes Cold Case were then alerted of the potential connection to unsolved rape cases.

The investigation revealed, Hamilton allegedly met the victims in the French Quarter and were taken to the Moon Walk, where the assault reportedly happened…
