The 2026 Jersey City municipal budget has been passed after months of upheaval that included complaints from the public, bickering between the current and former mayor, and a massive loan bailout by the state.
The City Council passed the $886.4 million budget during a special meeting on Aug. 26 by an 8-0-1 vote, with Councilman Michael Griffin abstaining, but not before residents had their final say. Griffin said after the meeting that he abstained on the budget because he was thinking of the financial hardship on residents.
