Hillside Solutions Compost Club currently serves more than 300 homes in Omaha. The organization wants to multiply that number by more than five, reaching 1,600 homes by the end of the year.
The program is the first of its kind to take Omaha trash and turn it into farming material. Compost Club bins collect yard waste and food to turn scraps into nutrient-packed soil for Nebraska farmers.
“To my knowledge, this is the only program of its kind in the entire United States,” said Sasha Patricia, Compost Club program director. “I genuinely feel like we are going to heal America one farm field at a time.”
