Senior housing development could be built near light rail station in San Jose

SAN JOSE — A preliminary proposal to turn part of a surface parking lot near a light rail station in South San Jose into senior housing was filed with the city Planning Department.

The proposal from real estate firms Republic Urban Properties, Swenson and EAH Housing would produce 165 apartment units for seniors at 605 Blossom Hill Road, according to Michael Van Every, president and managing partner for Republic Urban Properties.

Senior living apartment complexes in San Jose have begun to entice real estate investors. Because the Blossom Hill Road proposal is preliminary, city input could enable the development alliance to fine-tune the project, which could feature an assisted living and memory care component…
