Hurricane Katrina: 5 men’s memories come into focus in new docuseries ‘I Got a Story to Tell’

Twenty-one years later, survivors of the catastrophe, including Troy Pierre II, still pose a question they can’t really answer: “What would my life be like if Katrina had never hit?”

They can only relate to where the aftermath of the deadly 2005 hurricane took them physically, mentally, financially and emotionally. Before Katrina and after Katrina — a line forever etched in time.

Pierre and four other 20-somethings from the New Orleans area get candid about the disaster and their lives in general for “I Got a Story to Tell,” a new documentary series from New Orleans filmmaker and Baton Rouge native Maison Harris.

“I do remember a feeling, like we’ll be back in a couple of days,” Pierre, who had just started first grade, recalls of the day he and his family fled from New Orleans to Baton Rouge to ride out the hurricane…
