Petition calls for Kate Acuff’s removal from school board

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A group of about 20 residents gathered at the steps of the Albemarle County Office Building to formally announce the launch of a petition to remove Dr. Kate Acuff, the Jack Jouett District representative, from the school board.

The group is seeking 476 signatures from Jack Jouett residents in order to petition a circuit court to remove Acuff – the board’s longest tenured member – from her position under Virginia Code. The group would still have to show cause to the Circuit Court judge to get the removal.

“An elected official can be removed when they fail to perform the clear duties of the job or show extreme incompetence when doing that job, and when that failure or incompetence harms the work of that office,” Phil Riese, Chairman of the Albemarle Republican Committee and leader of the group, said during the press conference. “We believe Kate Acuff’s conduct meets that standard, and that’s why all of us are here.”…
