KDPS investigate string of small fires on Kalamazoo’s northeast side; cause still unclear

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo Public Safety (KDPS) is investigating a group of five small fires early Saturday morning on the northeast side, the department said in a social media post.

The fires occurred during a six-hour span. The department is looking into the fires, but does not yet know whether they were set on purpose, according to KDPS.

  • 9:30 p.m. – Trash can fire on North Burdick
  • 10:40 – Porta-potty fire on Oxford
  • 10:50 – Fence on fire near South Riverview and East Paterson Street
  • 2 a.m. – Vehicle fire on Cimarron Drive
  • After 2 a.m. – Trash can fire reported on Cimarron Drive

The fires were able to be extinguished quickly, limiting the damage. No one was hurt in any of the fires, investigators said.
