KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Local leaders seem to be preparing for a vote on the new Royals stadium project.
The city plans to commit $600 million to a $1.9 billion stadium, but Missouri Workers Power, an affiliate of the Missouri Workers Center or Stand Up KC, is calling for a vote before city funding is committed.

The Kansas City Council has to act on it by Aug. 31, but the council has no meeting planned in between now and Monday. That means it would go onto the ballot as is for residents of the city, potentially in April of next year. The Greater Kansas City Building & Construction Trades Council supports the project. Its business manager, Ralph Oropeza, said he’s worried about voters not being well informed.
“I look back just a few years ago when it went to the vote at Jackson County, and we had a lot of things going on there with the taxes and everything that led up to it,” he said in an interview with FOX4’s John Holt on Friday. “Yes, I do worry a little bit. I’m also confident that I do believe that the people understand how important this downtown renovation is.”…
