CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Visitors rolled up their pant legs and stepped into tubs of grapes on Saturday as Beachaven Vineyards & Winery held its annual Harvestfest.
The event returned for the second year with grape stomping, live music, local vendors and food trucks throughout the winery. Grape stomping was one of the main attractions of the day, giving visitors a chance to step barefoot into containers filled with grapes and crush them. The activity was free to anyone wanting to give it a try.
The practice of crushing grapes by foot dates back centuries, when stomping was one method used to break the skins of grapes and release their juice as part of the winemaking process. Today, wineries use mechanical equipment for production.
Along with grape stomping, Harvestfest featured more than two dozen local vendors selling food, crafts and other products. Food trucks served visitors throughout the afternoon and evening. Live music was performed by Jay Ammo followed by Syd Hedrick & The Phalcons later in the afternoon…
