SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – It’s a First Alert Weather Day for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. And we may have to extend beyond Tuesday as this wet pattern continues.
Saturday’s thunderstorms were epic! Rain totals ranged from over 3” on the east side of Sarasota, to almost an inch (0.86”) at SRQ, to just a quarter inch at Venice Airport (0.27”).
Every day in the coming week has similar potential. Tropical moisture is moving overhead this week. Each day has a quiet start, then scattered showers and storms developing in the early afternoon as sea breeze boundaries collide across the peninsula. The action ramps up as the day goes on, with the most active storm chances during the mid-to-late afternoon hours. Some of these storms could pack strong winds, so stay weather-aware if you’re planning outdoor activities.
Thunderstorm chances stay high through Friday. Then slightly drier air returns next Sunday. Storms will become more hit-and miss by then.
