New Roanoke College mural celebrates its mountainous home

SALEM, Va. (WFXR)- A new mural in downtown Salem celebrates the mountainous setting of Roanoke College.

The new mural, measuring 60-feet, is located on the north side of Ayres Hall, at the corner of College Avenue and Clay Street. It was brought to life by local artist Nicole Gray, who spent much of the summer working on it.

The design was inspired by the college’s Main Street corridor plan to reimagine the area as a life/learn/work/play hub with the City of Salem.

The Blue Ridge Mountains mural was Gray’s first solo project. However, she was a volunteer on the 9th Street and 13th Street murals in Roanoke. Gray was an assistant on the Dixie Products mural on Melrose Street and was a main collaborator on the ROA Southeast mural…
